I know it's been a long while since I last updated my blog. I apologize for that. I promise to do that more often for now on. (Yeah, I know I said that back in October, and five months went past, so shut the fuck up QDeezy. lol)

Well, LOTS of things have changed for me, a whole lot for the better. First and foremost, I'm no longer unemployed! *Does Happy Dance, Shouts and Jumps, Breaks into Holy Ghost* It feels good to be back in the land of the employed. I'm working as an educational aide at a transitional high school in DC. I'll go further into this in my next post. Finally, after fourteen months of being without a job, it feels GREAT to wake up at 6:15am to head out to make a living for myself.

Second, I finally moved out of the crazy woman's house! *Does Happy Dance again* I moved out at the beginning of the year (actually, I signed my lease on New Year's Eve. What an excellent way to bring in 2010! My God, let me tell you, there's NO GREATER FEELING than being on your own, being able to come home to PEACE AND QUIET, without having to worry about coming in and seeing someone wearing your clothes, things coming up missing, hearing someone yell all day, sit on their ass doing nothing, being a fat, lazy, beached whale relying on the government for everything (ok, I'm flattering myself too much lmao). I haven't spoken or seen the crazy woman since I moved my stuff out; we're on absolutely NO speaking terms. It sucks somewhat, because technically you're supposed to have a good relationship with your parents, but my egg donor, aka my mother, is, has been, and will continue to be an abject failure as a parent and mother.

So, new job and new house. Just two more big-ticket items missing: a car and a woman to share my immediate future with. But those will come soon. Just like it took time for the job and house to come, these things will come soon too.

Well, that's all for now. Gotta get back to work.

Take it easy yall,

QDeezy

The Violence Needs To End. TODAY!

I almost hate turning on the news these days. No matter what the channel, no matter what time the news comes on, you can count on the following stories being the lead: murder, robbery, another murder, a shooting, negative, negative, and even more negative. This society has become increasingly violent, and now that violence is pitting kids against kids. When you throw in illegal guns, it makes things even more tragic. We all have heard the story about the 16-year old high school student, Derrion Albert, who was killed needlessly, caught up tragically at the wrong place at the wrong time. This story caught national headlines, and it shone a light on how violent our youth have become in America, and throughout the world.

I turn to today. I go to the website of the Washington Post, and the big headline on the local page: Drive-by Leaves 2 Dead, 3 Hurt. Here's the link to the story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/13/AR2009101302377.html?hpid=dynamiclead. Clicking on the story, it says that all the victims were between 15 and 18 years old. Because of a beef between two rival 'hoods over in Clay Terrace, two kids' lives were cut short.

It is sad, a shame, a travesty, that we have become a society, a world, that no longer solves our problems and conflicts with others by talking to each other and reaching a resolution. Why is it that we must use the nuclear option, using a gun, a knife, etc., to solve conflicts? No one wins when weapons are introduced into a conflict. Someone's life will forever be changed. Someone will not get to see the sunrise of a new day because someone, being a coward, chose to use a gun or other weapon, to achieve a quick resolution.

When will the senseless violence end? Wake up people. We are killing ourselves! We are exterminating our futures, and for what? A stupid beef? Because someone looked at someone the wrong way? Ridiculous.

Stop. The. Violence. NOW!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.qhairston06.com/2009/10/violence-needs-to-end-today.html' title='The Violence Needs To End. I know it's been a long time since I last posted on here, and thank you to all who has continued to follow my blog. Here's a quick update on how I've been doing so far:

Well, I still don't have a job, but I'm not letting that hold me down. It is frustrating, yes, but I know my day is coming soon. Yes, I'm still living with Lucifer, but things have been going a little better recently. I still am very ready to move out, but I think I can hold on just a little bit longer.

I have an important question to ask: I want to take my blog to the next level. I'm going to establish my own domain name soon, but I need your help. What do you want to read about? Learn about? I am a man of the people, and I want to be a vehicle of change in my community. I plan on featuring many different things, use my blog as a means to promote good things and people in the community, that sort of things.

Bear with me as this will be something very new for me. I appreciate your support, and I look forward to entertaining, informing, and educating you in the very near future!

Thanks! FINALLY!

I know I've neglected my blog the past couple of weeks, and for those who follow my musings closely, I dearly apologize. Times have been a little rough and busy recently, and I will resume my normal writing schedule soon. Today I take a break from my usual political ranting (though I will have a doozy of a political post once the Sotomayor confirmation hearings are completed) and talk about sports.

I am an avid sports fan. I LOVE ALL my DC sports teams, even though they will probably lead me to an early death because of the indigestion and disappointment they bring each year, in some way or another. Now, before the Expos moved to DC and became the Nationals, I was an avid Orioles fan. I still watch their games, still root for them (except when they play the Nats), but I am a home team guy. I try to make an occasional Nats game or two a month when the season's in play, watch them all the time on the teevee machine. The high points, and the many, many, many, many, many, many low points.

This season, however, has shaved about ten years from my life expectancy.

This season has been an abject, complete failure. I can deal with losing. I may HATE it, but I understand that a team is not going to win every game. But the way that the Nationals have lost games this are just downright unbelievable! Not being able to catch a routine fly ball, missing the second base bag and costing the team a run and an out (Adam Dunn, this past Saturday, even though the Nats blew out the Astros 14-2), a bullpen that absolutely collapses after the 6th inning, among many, many others. To watch a Nats game is like looking at blood, you better have an extremely strong stomach, and a lot of Maalox. Or Tums. Or a stomach pump.

Today, well last night, the Nationals fired Manny Acta, the manager for the past 2 1/2 seasons. Now all the blame can't be placed on Acta. He is a very knowledgeable manager, but was not the right manager for this team. Well, I don't really know who really is for the team as currently constructed. My brother's little league team is better than this team. The Nats have absolutely NO bullpen, NO one who can play an ounce of defense, except for Nyjer Morgan, who was acquired for Lastings Milledge, NO one willing to play situational baseball (move a runner over, bunt for a base hit, hit a sacrifice to move over or score a runner, etc.), a crapshoot middle infield, outfielders afraid to charge the ball or make the tough catch (besides Morgan). NOTHING!

This team should be completely blown up. Castrated. Stripped to the core. Hit the reset button. Here's who should be saved: The starting rotation. The Nationals have an excellent up-and-coming young core of starters in John Lannan, Shairon Martis, Jordan Zimmerman, Scott Olsen, Craig Stammen, and Ross Detwiler. Lannan has the stuff to be an ace. Jordan is one of the game's most promising rookie starters. Stammen just pitched a complete game against the Astros. Winning in the majors begins and ends with great pitching, and the Nationals' rotations has the ability and talent to be one of the game's best, with further development. Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is the face of the franchise. With Zimmy, Adam Dunn, and Josh Willingham anchoring the 3-4-5 spots in the lineup, you have a trio that can easily hit over 100 homeruns a season. Jesus Flores is a remarkable young catcher. Morgan has what it takes to be a star centerfielder. If Mike MacDougal can control his wildness, he can be an outstanding closer.

Everyone else: Trade. Cut. Release. Send to Mars. Bury them in the Red Sea, whatever. They have to go! This season has been a complete embarrassment. Steps have been taken to try and righten the ship, by forcing the disaster named Jim Bowden to resign, trading Milledge, sending down Elijah Dukes, and, now, firing Manny Acta. Hopefully, in the offseason, our penny-pinching owners will open up the wallet, land one major free agent, get some serviceable players who can play defense, small ball, the little things, and hire a competent, energetic, fiery manager, and maybe the Nationals will become respectable and not the national punchline they currently are at the present.

It's been done before. The Tigers hit rock bottom in 2004, and less than 2 years later they were in the World Series. The Marlins fire-sold their team, TWICE, and they've won 2 world championships. The Celtics did it in the NBA in 2008. The question is: Will this be a sign of change for the Nationals, or just the same? We'll see in the coming months...

Be blessed.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.qhairston06.com/2009/07/move-in-right-direction-finally.html' title='A Move in the Right Direction... Granted, the man came into office with a stinking sack of shit sitting on his desk, with the economy headed towards total extinction, a record budget deficit, two very costly wars- one of which was completely unnecessary, and America's standing in the world severely weakened by the idiocy of George W. Bush, but come on, what the fuck is going on now?! I hate to admit this, but maybe that old fuck John McCain was right when all Obama was all talk, no substance. A celebrity who just wanted TV time. I can't turn on the teevee machine and NOT see Obama on it. Yes, he's the President, everything he does is televisied. But come on! "Obama gets new dog", "Obama takes Michelle to New York and Paris", "Obama and Biden at a burger joint". Don't get me wrong, I love that he's very personable, but shit! There are very serious issues that need to be tackled.

One of which is health care, and making it more affordable for American citizens. Congress is debating a plan that will, in theory, make healthcare coverage more affordable for all citizens. However, the plan as currently constituted caters to the needs and wants of the powerful health insurance industry, NOT ordinary citizens. As it stands right now, more than 50 million Americans (yes, that's no typo, 50,000,000+ American citizens) do not have any health care coverage. Let's make this even more personal: You see the following picture?

That's me. Hi. My name is Quentin Allen Hairston, and I am one of those more than 50 million citizens without any health coverage. That's right. I'm one major illness, sickness, broken bone, whatever, from complete financial ruin. I lost my coverage when I was laid off in November. In addition to myself and the more than 50 million people without health coverage, there's another 20 million with inadequate healthcare. Put the numbers together. More than one-fifths of the American public is either completely without health insurance, or with inadequate health coverage. It's a complete travesty, in the RICHEST (well, used to be richest) country in the world. Where we have the best medical care, the best doctors, that 1/5 of your population is without adequate coverage. If you've had to buy prescription drugs recently, its stupidly expensive.

Health care desperately needs to be reformed. The decision on medical care needs to be in the hands of DOCTORS, not insurance companies looking to pad the bottom line. That is what President Obama is trying to do, by giving us the option of either going through a private insurer or going with a "public option". Now, what's a public option you ask? A public option is a taxpayer-sponsored medical insurance plan, similar to Medicare. Opponents (Republicans and the almight insurance industry) believes that a public option will drive out competition and have a bureaucrat making decisions on your health care. The American Medical Association says that, "The introduction of a new public plan threatens to restrict patient choice by driving out private insurers, which currently provide coverage for nearly 70% of Americans."

Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2009/06/19/2009-06-19_whos_afraid_of_a_public_option_health_care_debate_is_stuck_on_a_strawman.html#ixzz0JqlNPvVC&C

However, there are plenty of areas where private and public entities exist and compete just fine. Public schools is a great example. The Post Office is another. Recreation, travel, scientific research. Here's the biggie: SOCIAL SECURITY! What the fuck is wrong with having government-subsidized health coverage? Oh, wait, we have that already too: MEDICARE & MEDICAID! The public option will work to make coverage more affordable, and available to ALL citizens. Sure, it will cost a lot, A WHOLE FUCKING LOT, but it's not like we haven't mortgaged our future, our children's future, their children, and their children's children's future to bail out Wall Street and the greedy banks.

Republicans don't give two shits about us. We don't make money for them. The insurance industry lobbyists are stuck so far up their ass they should be charged with sodomy. Apparently, the sodomy has crossed over to the Democrats, and, sadly, I think President Obama is getting in bed with them too. Mr. President (and I parse my words very tightly when I say this), your presidency will be a complete FAILURE if you DO NOT PASS HEALTHCARE REFORM by the midterm elections! I voted for you because I though you would be the best person to bring REAL reform, REAL change to our country. In some areas, you have. You've restored dignity and decency to the White House and to America. You're working extremely hard to earn back the respect America lost during President Bush's tenure.

HOWEVER, you have ONE SHOT to get health care right! ONE! It's time you grow some balls and RAM this reform down the Republicans' throats! It's time to act like George W. Bush and say "Damned the Torpedoes!" We will pass this with or without you! 72 percent of the country support the public option. Fuck the Republicans. If they want to filibuster, let them go right ahead. I'll donate every book I own for them to read while they're obstructing the change that's so DESPERATELY NEEDED! You mean to tell me that you're going to allow 39 people to prevent the change that 72% of the country supports? GET. THE. FUCK. OUTTA. HERE!

If you don't think I can say things any better, I'll let Bill Maher be my voice.

Mr. President: I love you, but please: GROW SOME BALLS!

In Memoriam: Michael Jackson (1958-2009)

Yesterday we lost a giant in America's (and the world's) recent music history. Michael Jackson, known to many as the King of Pop, passed away suddenly at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, after he stopped breathing in his home. He was 50 years old. When the announcement broke that Jackson had been rushed to the hospital, the Twitter world went absolutely nuts. Without knowing the full details, whether he had regained consciousness or whether official news sources had confirmed if he had died or not, people started tweeting "RIP MJ", relying on a non-official news source, TMZ.com as their source of information. What a shame. We have digressed so much that we allow non-credible blog sites, such as TMZ, to be our primary source of news. A complete shame!

Michael Jackson transcended the R&B and pop music industries, mixing the two genres better than anyone could ever do. He did it with much ease. From his childhood days starring with the Jackson 5 and Motown, up until now, he had been a fixture in American music and American culture for some 40 years. Recently, people had associated MJ with all the looney details of his later years in life, the two allegations of child molestation, the assorted facial surgeries that distorted his face, the prescription drug addiction, the skin disease that robbed his skin of melanin, the famous picture of him hanging his then infant son over a railing, his wanting to be Peter Pan, the massive amount of debt he owed to many debtors. Sure, a lot of bad happened in his life, but the man was a pure musical genius. He possessed a gift for music and dance that not many people have, but work so hard to achieve.

He was a genius when it came to music and dance. He transformed, recreated in a way, how music videos were made, starting in 1982 with "Thriller". In fact, his Thriller album STILL remains the highest selling album of all time, with over 100 million copies sold. Yes, that number will no doubtedly increase, along with his other albums, when the newest Soundscan numbers come out next week. Since his death yesterday, his albums are the top selling albums on iTunes. He's the man who brought us the Moonwalk, his dance moves are envied by others. His influence on music and dance stretches into the current century, with artists like Usher, Omarion, Chris Brown emulating his dance moves. Chris Brown often states that his main influence was Michael Jackson.

He will forever be remembered for his music. He will forever be a musical legend in my eyes. I will continue to play "Billie Jean", "PYT-Pretty Young Thing", "You Are Not Alone", "Thriller" and all his hits. Ladies and gentlemen, his music will definitely live on. Yes, his life, especially the later years of his life, will read like a Greek tragedy, but his music, transcendent as it was and still is, will reign supreme forever.

To close us out, one of my favorite Michael Jackson cuts: Smooth Criminal

God Bless You, Michael Joseph Jackson, and may your soul finally be at peace.

The Misconception of Reality

I was on Twitter tonight, and a few things made me create this blog post. I was reading through my timeline, and Trey Songz, whom I was previously following, wanted ppl to tweet to him, "I love you Trey". Talk about a self-absorbing jackass! Within minutes, it became a trending topic. That immediately set me off the rocker! My rant officially begins now.

This world has become so self-absorbed, so short-sighted, so "Twitter-listic" that reality doesn't exist anymore. We are now a society of sound bites, of 140 character status updates. No one listens to the full story people have to say anymore, we're so concerned about the 15 second sound bite we hear on MSNBC, CNN, Fixed News and the Internets. No one reads newspapers anymore. No one reads period! If it's not on YouTube, it's not news worthy.

Why in the flying fuck is "I Love You Trey" a trending topic? More serious, real-life news stories took place yesterday. For instance, the Red Line train crash in my hometown, Washington, DC. Nine people lost their lives in that crash. The current political uprising in Iran is a major story. ACTUAL NEWS! We have a failing health care system, a failing education system, a declining economy, and "I Love You Trey" is a trending topic? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU FUCKERS?! Hop off his dick, you fucking groupies! Trey and all those other fucktard celebrities on Twitter could give two shits about yall! I saw him make that tweet, and I immediately unfollowed his ass and anyone who responded back. Them fucktards have over 100,000 followers, but do they actually respond back to the little people, you fucking groupies, that tweet to them? Rarely if ever. Now, there are some that really connect with their fans and interact back, but for many of them its a popularity contest. A self-absorbing ploy to say the least. Down right SICK if you ask me.

Another thing. All these lame "reality" shows on TV these days. Hey dumbass, that shit's FAKE! Don't know what fake is? Let's see what Webster's define fake as: "To manipulate fraudulently, so as to make an object appear better or other than it really is". That's all what these so-called reality shows are. NOT REAL! It's all scripted. Make-believe. A fairy tale. The even funnier thing is: YOU DUMBASSES FALL FOR IT! Think it's real, that this is real life. News flash: IT'S NOT!!!! Wake up and smell the fucking coffee! This is the reason why reality is being misconstrued.

I don't have time for bullshit and lameness anymore! Do me a favor, exit stage right and never come back! The technolization of society has had its many benefits, but it's completely full of downfalls. For example, take a look at this picture:

That is a picture of my 11 year old brother. He just woke up no less than an hour ago (12:40pm, it's 1:21pm) and already his ass is on the laptop. Repeat this every day, around the same time, with many, many other children in the US. And we wonder why our children are the dumbest, the fattest, most unathletic of any of the developed nations of the world. We are lazy, we are complacent, our children are lazy, if it doesn't involve an Xbox 360, PS3, PC or Macbook, they're uninterested.

Ladies and gentlemen, its a shame and a dangerous, critical problem.

Be Blessed.

People's Choice

Hello all! Wow, I haven't blogged in 3 days. Missed me? I hope you did, cuz I have a doozy of a post today. I opened the topic of this post to my Twitterlings to see what they could think of for me to rant and rave about. And boy did I get some interesting topics! Soooo....

Topic 1 (suggested by @blairbowers): Taylor Swift rapping with T-Pain

Now before I go off on this, let me first say that I have NO problem with white folk rapping. It speaks to the value and influence of hip-hop in influencing today's culture. But, ladies and gents, ITS NOT CUT OUT FOR EVERYONE!

To today's "WHAT IN THE FUCKERY?!" moment: One of my former RAs sent me a link of Taylor Swift rapping with T-Pain. http://perezhilton.com/2009-06-17-taylor-swifts-thug-story. It's titled "Taylor Swift's Thug Story". Really folks, what the FUCK does Taylor Swift knows about being a thug? About thug life? She's talking about being hardcore. HUH? Being a gangsta? WHAT? First off, all that she "rapped" about made no fucking sense at all. But hey, that's hip hop today. With lyrical idiots like Soulja Boy, OJ tha Juiceman, and all these other fuckers ruining the industry with their autotune shit, what can you expect? Second, she looks like a fucking fool, a deer in headlights, a beached whale trying to get back in the water, whatever euphenism you can think of. Again, to my first point: RAP IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!

Not even gonna waster further bandwith talking about this nonsense.

On to Topic #2 (suggested by @Killa_Star): Thirsty Muthafuckers

I know Twitter is becoming one of the larger social networking sites on the Internets. But, ladies and gentlemen, TWITTER IS NOT CRAIGSLIST! Recently, there has been an influx of ppl using titties and dicks as their Twitter avatars. Ummm, excuse me. There are people who are younger than 18 years old on Twitter. Leave that shit for Myspace! There's more than enough perverts on there that would GLADLY welcome your titty and dick pics. Now, yes, I am a breast aficionado, but I don't want that to be the first impression I get about you. And fellas, I'm not gay. I don't want to see ur dick, whether in real life or as your avatar. Other heterosexual dudes don't either, neither does some females. What the fuck is wrong with this world?! Exhibitionism is fine and all, but Twitter is not the place for it. Find another outlet. Thanks

Well, only 2 topics came in, so there you go ladies and gents. Not much anger and ferocity in this post. I'm chill tonight.

Hope you enjoy!

Be blessed.

The Frustration of Being Out of Work

To use the word frustration would be a MASSIVE understatement. This is now DESPERATION! For those who don't know my situation: On November 11, 2008, I lost my job as a residence hall director at an university in Ohio, because of budget cuts. Ever since that day, I have been on the search for a new position. I've had several promising interviews, but no one has pulled the trigger and offered me a position. I am frustrated. I am tired. I'm tired of being told "Sorry, but we offered the position to someone else". I'm tired of being second place.

You know, what's the point of going to school all these years to not be able to get a job? I've sent my resume just about everywhere. Universities, community colleges, non-profits. Nothing. I've been on six interviews (phone and in-person). I was a final candidate for three positions. Nothing. Thank God I'm not completely rubbing pennies together (student loans, unemployment compensation, a large income tax refund and supportive family is keeping me afloat), and I know things could be much, much worse.

I keep self-motivating myself by saying, "Maybe next time", "This won't last too long", "The next interview will be a homerun". It's not working anymore. I'm at my wit's end. The tunnel seems darker now than it did on November 11, 2008. I'm not seeing the light at the end. I'm so tired of living at my mother's house. I'm so tired of having to worry about when I will get the chance to showcase my talents and get compensated for doing so. I'm out of answers, and there's so many questions.

What shall I do now?

Stay tuned........

Ignorance: Keep That Shit To Yourself. Thanks.

You know it seems like I'm ranting or cussing someone out on Twitter. I've been dubbed Angry Man, Anger Management, been unofficially diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome, etc. It's all funny to me. People don't realize that Twitter is all fun and games. I cuss because I can, because we've been given that right by the First Amendment of the Constitution. Don't like it, simply unfollow me. Nothing hard in that, I won't care, won't cry, bitch, rant, rave, none of the above. Unfortunately, someone on the Twitter machine sees it another way. Here's my story.

I was at the Pug yesterday, like I am every Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, sometimes Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday (ok fuck it, I'm there just about every day because it's such a GREAT place to be at!), watching Hobe and the Fakers demolish the Disneys and win the No Balls Association championship. Of course, I was doing my usual in-game ranting, when all of a sudden I receive the following RT: "RT @yea, cuz he told the other cocksucker @lulion07 to stop followin me, he had to dm the nigga, thats how much of a sucka he is!!!"

Apparently, some immature young lady got mad because I unfollowed (and subsequently blocked) her for her a) immaturity and b)negativity. I don't know how old this chick is, but she was always saying some sideways shit out her mouth. For instance, my "Don't Prejudge Me" post was based on some ignorant shit she said to me when I was describing my current job and living situation on Twitter. You see, I'm comfortable with sharing details of my life because my closest followers, they care about my well-being. That point was definitely proved during the aftermath of my brother's death 2 weeks ago. So I don't mind sharing what's on my mind. So, instead of asking about WHY I'm unemployed or WHY I'm living with my mother, she automatically ASSUMED that I was some scrub who's not doing shit with his life. Let me make one point CRYSTAL CLEAR: I have BOTH a high school diploma AND a college degree, and am working on my master's degree. Here's the proof below:

She thinks that someone (not gonna disclose his name but you know who I'm talking about) persuaded me to unfollow her. If it wasn't so pathetic it would be absolutely hilarious! Simply not true. I'm not going to defend myself because there's nothing to defend. Simply, I'm going to say this, and I've said it before: If you have a problem with ANYTHING I say, simply click unfollow. In fact, how bout you make both my life and yours easier and just Mutombo (block) me. Most importantly, leave the ignorance, bullshit, hate, bitchassness, and most importantly, NEGATIVITY, to yourself! You will NOT steal my joy because you are lonely, miserable, and have nothing else to do but be on Twitter trying to be an fake ass internet thug hard body. I may not have a job AT THE MOMENT, but I certainly have other things to entertain me other than being on Twitter every moment of the day. And lastly, I've been called just about every name in the book. If you're gonna call me names, think of something that hasn't been said. Be creative with your shit. As the old saying goes: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will NEVER hurt me". Clowns! Clowns I tell ya!

Now, again I ask, ANYONE READY FOR FOOTBALL SEASON?! GO SKINS! Here's a treat to close us out:

Be Blessed.

UPDATE @ 7:27pm: Here's the PERFECT song to describe what I'm talking bout...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.qhairston06.com/2009/06/ignorance-keep-that-shit-to-yourself.html' title='Ignorance: Keep That Shit To Yourself. I Hate Them!

There's a lot of things that thoroughly piss me off. Music, Kappas, anyone from Cheyney, ALL Cowbitches fans. But nothing pisses me completely off like a liar. I HATE LIARS! Now yesterday, on Twitter, there was this guy, a rapper or singer, or something, who was telling what we thought was a tragic story about his girlfriend's death. Everyone knows this is a very sensitive topic for me because of what happened to my brother 2 weeks ago. People started tweeting, "show ____ some luv, his story is very tragic". You know, we on Twitter, especially the YNTWTR, we're a family. Even if you're not in YNTWTR, if you follow us we look out for you.

Anyway, I go and check out his tweets. It was hard to look at them. The story he was telling was extremely compelling. Basically, it was a love story, and how his heart and soul had been ripped away when his girlfriend was killed (again, allegedly.). His story made me think about my brother. I called for a 3 minute moment of silence, said a prayer for the guy, everything. Just like how my Twitter family came to my side during my time of grief and sorrow, we did the exact same thing.

Come to find out, unlike my brother, where there were news stories, and his obituary in the paper, there was NOTHING on Google or anything else about the person dude was describing. He claimed that his girl was an MD, a surgeon to be exact. He also claimed that she was beaten, raped, cut up, and left for dead. Now, I didn't major in criminal justice at Lincoln, but if someone was beaten, raped, and mutilated the way he claimed she was, there should have been a news report, an article, SOMETHING if someone went and Googled her name. Instead, nothing. Well, there was something. Porn.

When I found that out, I was absolutely HEATED! Heated because there were people on Twitter, including a YNTWTR member, who had lost close family members. Everyone knows I'm a very caring person. But DO NOT PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS! Then, later I found out he may have made this story up to get publicity for his upcoming album. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?! Who creates a story about someone getting killed? I was too through. Immediately went and unfollowed and BLOCKED his ass. Death is not something you play around with. It's not something you joke about. It is a somber subject, not a comedic joke.

So here's a quick reminder: DON'T PLAY WITH MY EMOTIONS. Just. Don't. Do. It.

Deuces

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.qhairston06.com/2009/06/liars-i-hate-them.html' title='Liars. A Damn Travesty

I'm convinced that I have an anger management problem, or Tourette's, or something to the like because I get mad very easily. Maybe its the Gemini in me, I just don't know. There's just some things that sends me completely off the Richter scale.

The number one thing that gets me heated is this: I HATE DEADBEAT FATHERS! A child is a blessing from God. That child didn't ask to be brought into the world, but once it's here it is both parent's responsibility to raise it. You hear that, BOTH PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITY! If you stick your dick in all these women, damnit if she gets pregnant step up to the plate and handle your business! My father wasn't always physically around during my younger days because he was battling addiction. But damnit, he made sure me and my brother had whatever we needed. Needed a new pair of shoes, we got them. A new suit, got it. Money for school, he made a way for us to have it. Now he may have had to do some illegal things to get it, but he made sure we had whatever we needed (and wanted).

In today's society, men must think its a badge of honor to have 5 or 6 different baby mothers. No, that shit is nasty! Now if you're taking care of your seeds, both monetarily AND in their lives, I give you a standing ovation. My roommate from college has 3 boys, each by different mothers, but he's in their lives AND provides for them. My line brother has a boy and a girl, by different women, but he's in their lives AND provides for them. Those are class acts. Then we have my brother's father, for instance. He hasn't seen my brother NOT ONCE in almost 12 years. A FUCKING SHAME!

People then wonder why these young girls are out ho'ing around and ending up on Maury's "I want to be pregnant at 13" or "My 14 year's old a wild teen" or "I'm 16, who's my baby's daddy" shows. You can CLEARLY see that they have no father figure showing them how a REAL man is supposed to treat them. It's a shame. A complete tragedy. A complete travesty!

Simply, all I'm saying is, if you lay down with a woman, be FULLY prepared to take care of your responsibilities if you get her pregnant. Better yet, how about using a FUCKING condom! Sure, they may not 100% prevent pregnancy, but I'd take the 1 percent chance she might get pregnant or give me a disease than the 100% chance that comes when you don't use a condom. Oh, in case you wasn't paying attention in biology class, you CAN get a girl pregnant even if you don't ejaculate, cum, bust in her, whatever adjective you want to use. Pre-cum is just as powerful, in fact even MORE powerful and full of sperm than regular ejaculation.

I close this post with this: JUST. BE. SAFE.

Be blessed.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.qhairston06.com/2009/06/deadbeat-dads-damn-travesty.html' title='Deadbeat Dads... Let me explain that again: I WAS LAID OFF! NOT FIRED, DIDN'T RESIGN OR ANYTHING ELSE! You know, the first person people want to blame when someone loses their job is that person. Many times, it is you that did something to cause yourself to get fired or let go from your job. Not in my case. I did everything I was supposed to, and then some. I had excellent performance ratings from my supervisor. I lost my job because the school I was working for had a $3 million budget hole to close, so difficult decisions had to be made. That's it. That's all.

It pisses me off when people, ESPECIALLY females, beat down, degrade men, especially BLACK men, when they don't have a job. Yes, there are some deadbeat, nondescript bums who ain't trying to do shit in their lives, but I'm not one of those type of guys. I have my bachelor's degree. I'm currently working on getting my master's. I'm articulate, can hold an intelligent conversation, all of the above. I'm not wasting my life away like these other bums on the fucking street. Sure, right now I'm living with my mom, I have no car of my own, no job, but that doesn't mean I'm some fucking scrub.

If you haven't read the news recently, we're in a fucking recession. Unemployment in the United States is at 9.5%. In DC, the unemployment rate is almost 11 percent. People simply aren't hiring right now, and in the areas that ARE hiring, people simply do not qualify for those type of positions. Also remember, there are other highly qualified people competing for limited employment opportunities. This is the WORST time to be unemployed. Companies can't get access to credit to meet their payrolls, so they have to cut back. Those who are still hiring are offering salaries so low, it's downright laughable.

"I WILL NOT BE IN THIS SITUATION MUCH LONGER". If you're in the same boat as I am, take it from me: Repeat that last sentence. OVER and OVER! Keep your head up. Keep sending out those resumes, keep talking to your connects, keep looking. Thankfully, I am getting unemployment benefits, and my student loans are helping me survive this. I've been out of work almost 8 months, but I'm sure my day is coming. There's gonna be jackasses that work to bring you down, but remember that's just the work of the Devil trying to keep you in bondage.

Whew! I feel better now. Amazing how calming writing can be for a person!

Stay positive, and be blessed.

Ummm, Football Season Anyone?

This it IT! I've absolutely HAD IT with the NBA. The "Association" is in such a sorry state that I almost don't bother to watch game anymore. So, the Magic lost last night. That effectively ended the 2008-09 NBA season. I mean, really, we now know that the Fakers (or Lakers, as they're officially known as) will win the title. It's no longer a question of whether it'll be a 6 or 7 game series (IT WON'T). The question is now whether the Fakers will sweep, or will the Magic grow a pair of fucking cojones and win at least one game.

This is why the Association wanted a Hobe-Prince final sooooooooooooooooo bad! Nike wanted a Hobe-Prince final sooooooooooooo bad that they created puppets of Kobe and LeBron and made commercials hyping them. (My views on The Prince in a lil bit). Both are great competitors. If it was a Cleveland-LA final, the Fakers may be up 2-0, but trust and believe both games would have gone down to the final buzzer/went to OT. However, it's clearly evident that the more experienced team is completely dominating the young pups in Orlando.

Question to the world: WHAT THE FUCK IS PATRICK EWING TEACHING DWIGHT?! Yes, Dwight is a freak of nature. But the guy has no fucking post moves whatsoever! Being big only gets you but so far. (See brown, kwame and olowokandi, michael). The Fakers have three, THREE 7 footers in the starting lineup, punk ass Odom (who miraculously is actually USING his talent now!), soft ass Pau and bitch ass Andy Bynum. You're not playing the LeBrons who had slow ass Ilgauskas and the idiot child/crybaby Varejao. They're quicker to the spot. What does that mean? Anyone? Oh, right, YOU POST THEM THE FUCK UP! Pat Ewing should know these things! Well, on second thought, guess not!

2nd question: Will a team that runs the European style of basketball, where you live and die by the 3, EVER will a 'ship? That shit works in the regular season, NOT in the playoffs! Example 1 for question 2: The Phoenix Suns, circa Mike D'Antoni era. They had the best offense in basketball. ABSOLUTELY NO DEFENSE! Everytime they played the Spurs, what happened? They LOST! Why? The Spurs PLAY DEFENSE! Something I tell the kids I coach all the time: Offense sells tickets. Free throws wins games. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS! Don't think its true? Name a team, in the current era of the NBA, who's won a 'ship with just offense. I'll wait........ It's so easy to stop Orlando, it should be almost illegal. Phil Jax should be in jail. Orlando's game plan. Go low to Howard, kick out to Turk, 'Shard, Rafer, Jameer, the idiot kid Courtney or the other idiot kid J.J. Well, too bad Jameer's coming off a 4 month injury, Rafer's not hitting shots, Courtney can't finish an alley oop, and Rashard and J.J's gone into witness protection. Oh, and no one ATTACKS THE FUCKING BASKET! What yall skurred to get fouled? Take a hit? Stop being pussies and attack the cup!

So, again, now that we know the Fakers will win the title, anyone ready for football season? I certainly am!

The Longest Week of My Life!

Now I've had some very long weeks in my life, but absolutely nothing compares to what I went through from May 29 to June 7, 2009. Death is nothing easy to deal with. In the back of your mind you wonder, why? Why him? Why her? Why now? It's a constant search for answers to questions that really don't have answers to. But when someone's life is taken tragically, when it's completely unexpected, its very hard to understand. Also, everyone deals with death differently. There is no right or wrong way, no guide or manual that tells you what you need to do to cope with someone's passing. You simply take each day as it comes and lean on the support of your family and friends.

The other night, someone at the Pug came up to me and told me something NOT to do at my brother's funeral: DON'T. TAKE. PICTURES. Don't take pictures of him lying in his casket. She said that I wouldn't have peace with him being gone because that image will always bring me back to how he died, not how he lived his life. The good times. That really hit me. You know what, she was absolutely right. Now, now a full week and a half after he died, I'm more at peace with him being gone. But boy, if I could have taken a picture of all the people who came to salute my brother. That church was absolutely packed! Standing room only. It was truly a celebration of his life. A fitting sendoff for a honorable young man who was loved by all.

Yesterday, we had the honor of accepting his high school diploma. A sad duty, indeed, but a celebration nonetheless. My brother was looking forward to this day. I'm sure he was jumping up and down and hi-fiving everyone up above. His school went out of their way to support us this past week. The faculty, staff, and students collected money and donated it to our family. A scholarship is being established in his name. The yearbook is being dedicated in his honor. Truly a testament to the wonderful life he lived.

So now the longest week of my life is now over. My heart is still heavy, I miss my brother dearly, but I am comforted in that he is in a better place and that I will see him once again when I go and meet my maker.

Good day!

Thinking of my brother...

It's now been 3 days since my little brother departed this earth and began his eternal rest. The first two days were extremely difficult. The littlest thought of my brother would have me in tears. Every text I received, every tweet I got, every time the phone rang, would make me feel so sad. I haven't had a lot of sleep the past 3 days. Every time I close my eyes, the image of my brother's lifeless body laying on that hospital bed would creep up into my dream, and I wake up. I swear, this is one extremely bitter pill to ingest, but somehow I must find a way to swallow it.

I think about all the things I got to experience, and it saddens me that he was denied the chance to experience those things like I did. Like walking across the stage and receiving my high school diploma, something he would have done this coming Sunday, if he were still alive. Like going to college, something he would have started this fall, if he were still alive. Like turning 19 years old, something he would have done on July 25th, if he were still alive. That's what makes this hurt even more. When my grandma passed away almost 8 years ago, she was 81 years old. She lived a full life. Her labor turned into full reward. I was sad, but not like this. Because my brother was so young, hadn't even entered the prime of his life, his death stings even more. Like salt being poured on an open wound.

Me and Ced didn't get to see each other much. We have the same father, but we were raised very separately. Regardless of that, I loved my brother unconditionally. My brother wasn't a bad kid. Our father always reiterated to me and Ced to be better than him, to not make the same mistakes he did growing up. To always have respect for other people.

My brother touched so many people's lives in a positive manner. As I was going through Ced's friend's Myspace profiles to get recent pics of him, everyone had something positive to say about my brother. That's the type of impact you should leave on this earth, so that when your day comes to go home to the Lord, people will remember you for the goodness of your deeds and nothing else. So many people have shared with me and my family all the good things my brother did, how he was a good kid, how he rededicated his life to Christ, on his own, how he went and registered for classes at BCC, ON HIS OWN. My brother was a class act, and that's how we should remember him.

As we prepare to send my brother home to his final resting place, I remember the good times we had. Flipping through pics of us growing up, my brother always had a big smile on his face. That's how I will choose to remember him. To all my brother's friends, please honor my brother's legacy by doing right in life. I know you all are in so much agony and pain, trust me I feel your pain. Follow my brother's example. That's the best way to remember Ced. Remember he's now in a better place, free from harm, pain, and all the other BS we have to go through down here on Earth. God has his loving hands around Ced. He's at peace, and at home.

Good night everyone. Yesterday, my little brother was killed in a hit and run accident in Baltimore, MD. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/crime/bal-md.crimebriefs301may30,0,2119313.story He was only 18 years old. His life, cut short by someone who decides allegedly to steal a car, hit my brother, and keep on going. My brother was supposed to graduate next Sunday from high school. I never expected to receive that phone call from my dad that my brother had been hit by a car and was fighting for his life.

From the minute I received that phone call, I tweeted about my brother fighting for his life. Almost instantly, people started tweeting me back praying for his survival, hoping for the best, giving me strength when I needed it the most. Most especially, my #YNTWTR family came to my side, lifted me up in prayer, sent me positive vibes.

I have been extremely overwhelmed by the response of everyone, my friends on Twitter and on Facebook, who has sent words of support, comfort, condolence. To everyone who said a prayer for me and my family, to those who called to check up on me, sent me a text, from the bottom of my heart I thank you! On behalf of my my family, who's dealing with the tragic loss of my beloved brother, I thank you!

A special message to my #TNTWTR family on Twitter, I am eternally grateful! #YNTWTR was initially a joke among a group of us on Twitter, which has since become a movement. A family. Dwight, @mrallenakaneo, Mr. President, thank you for being a virtual shoulder to lean on. Thanks for sending the DMs to check up on me, for taking a 5 minute tweet of silence to honor my brother, for your prayers. I am eternally grateful to all of you. We may have never seen each other in person, but we are a family.

If you wish to send a note, a card, etc., email me at qhairston06@gmail.com and I'll send you my address.

God Bless You All!
